back to the beginnings (working title)

this series is about discovering identity. many americans, for a multitude of reasons, struggle to connect with their cultural heritage. this project is about finding that connection.

2025, in slovenia, was the beginning of this journey. along with my father, who is half slovenian, we drove across the country and visited with distant relatives. we discovered a sense of place and belonging that i now yearn for.

over the coming years, i will be traveling to the four countries that i was able to track my ancestry to; slovenia, italy, lithuania, and the galician region of eastern europe encompassing parts of the ukraine and poland . in some of them i hope to find distant relatives that can help. in others, i might find something much less tangible.

the goal is to publish 4 separate books, each highlighting one country. in addition, i hope to have an exhibition showing images from all four.
